Presentation Covers Wide Range of Legal Issues Most Likely to Confront Startup Companies
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – September 28, 2014 – Frank Taney, principal of Taney Legal LLC, presented to the PennApps Fellows project participants on “Legal Issues For Startups” on July 17, 2014.
PennApps Fellows (www.pennappsfellows.com) is a student-run organization that pairs talented students from around the country with startups in Philadelphia for a 10-week summer internship. Candidates accepted into this competitive program work closely with prominent Philadelphia technology startup companies and also receive instruction on a variety of topics relevant to those interested in participating in the startup environment. Taney serves as general outside counsel to the organization and handles all of the organization’s legal affairs.
Taney’s presentation covered a wide range of legal issues likely to confront startup companies as they grow. Some of the topics included choosing a business structure, formational and foundational documents for startups, intellectual property, as well as dealing with employees and independent contractors.. Taney also addressed the legal issues arising from fundraising and the introduction of outside investors, and answered followup questions from the program participants after his presentation.
