Taney’s Talk Covers Risks, Best Practices for Developers Working With Open Source Software
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – March 21, 2014 – Frank Taney, principal of Taney Legal LLC, spoke to the Philly Python Users Group (“PhillyPUG”) on March 19, 2014 regarding open source software licensing issues.
PhillyPUG (www.meetup.com/phillypug/) is a group of Philadelphia area programmers and developers who work with Python, a popular open source development framework. Since its founding in 2009, PhillyPUG has grown to over 1,000 members. Taney’s presentation identified the main varieties of open source software licenses and the potential challenges they posed to commercialization of technology. His presentation also included discussion of best practices for avoiding licensing and other intellectual property problems in connection with the use of open source software.
